Advertising Magic for Charity
Compsoft has successfully delivered an innovative solution that is using the profitable nature of internet searching to help charities raise funds, to Surrey-based enterprise MagicTaxi.
MagicTaxi turned to Compsoft to develop aspects of their web-based application, an internet search engine. Managing Director, Paul Quelch, came up with the simple idea of using the internet to generate funds for a range of charities: every day someone searched on MagicTaxi, they could effortlessly support a charity, with the nominated charity changing daily.
The home page provides access to internet services, with an arrangement for advertising revenue generated being shared by the charity and MagicTaxi. In addition, visitors can click through to Wikipedia, which is offered simply as an extra service. According to Paul Quelch, “we thought it would be useful for visitors to access useful background information through Wikipedia to support their searches on Yahoo or Kelkoo”.
Compsoft, which specialises in bespoke solutions for high-growth SMEs, was tasked with the development and implementation of the MagicTaxi site. Using Microsoft .NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005, and its own in-house database tools and expertise, Compsoft’s developers re-wrote the entire back end. Intrinsic to the brief is the need to build a system that can be enhanced in future months as the company expands its commercial enterprises.
Now in place, MagicTaxi have enjoyed success with the application, Paul Quelch feels a very productive partnership has been created with Compsoft: “After we called them in, they rapidly assessed the existing code, and then pulled it apart and rebuilt it in a far more resilient body, making MagicTaxi fast, accessible and robust. We have now established a very professional and productive working relationship, and the future looks very exciting for the ways we can continue to develop MagicTaxi together.”
