Rain Fails to Dampen Affiliates' Enthusiasm

Despite a wet start to December, members of the business community braved torrential rain to make their way to Alton, Hampshire. The group included business consultants, IT infrastructure specialists and developers, financial advisors and multi-media producers. The purpose was to experience, among a number of presentations, a showcase from Compsoft's customer-turned-Affiliate, commercial eye care specialist, Duncan and Todd.

Bill Roddie, IT Manager for the Corporate Eye Care Department, gave attendees an insight into the needs of the company prior to their implementation of Compsoft's flexible ASP.NET solution. When he joined, the company was running a legacy system that dated from the 1980s and was no longer a viable means of managing information in a company with a multi million pound turnover and three disparate departments. Bill commented: "I needed to progress the use of IT as there appeared to be no way forward with Delta 5 (the incumbent system).

Having approached Compsoft, we seized the opportunity to make improvements through increasing functionality and change the platform using the best technology available."

In growing its business, Duncan & Todd's Corporate Eye Care department used consultants who would undertake examinations on customer sites. The need for web-based access to customer records and the ability to place an order for spectacles directly to the manufacturing department was a fundamental requirement of a new IT system.

Using Microsoft™.NET technology, Compsoft built a bespoke application that met their needs and has the flexibility to grow as the service expands into new geographic and business areas. It joined up remote consultants via the world wide web connecting their customer contact points with the manufacturing and finance divisions of the company.

Another driver was the need for Key Performance Indicators to guide the management in decision making and monitor their customer service. The company has used the information to reduce the demand placed upon their call centre through enhanced customer service; getting it right first time. The business software in use has tied many of the previously disparate systems together to enhance the fluidity between departments and create efficiencies and savings.

In summarising the service Bill Roddie gave a testimony from the Head of Corporate Eye Care, Janice Douglas: "I can say that Compsoft have provided us with an excellent service. I like the fact that they take the time to fully understand what we do in our business". For Compsoft, the greatest compliment is that, subsequent to the implementation of the bespoke system, Duncan and Todd’s IT department has become a Compsoft Affiliate as they look to provide IT services and support and promote Compsoft's offering to companies that are in a similar situation that they were in.
