Delta Squad

Guildford, Surrey, 05 May 2006. Compsoft recently completed interim works to a Delta application used by European Institute of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Surrey.

For over 15 years, EIHMS has used a Student Administration written using Compsoft's legacy Delta database development environment. Towards the latter part of 2006, this system is due to be replaced by a new University-wide system. A review of backup procedures identified an inability to restore the backups in their current format. The backups were also reliant on being able to reinstall Delta, a product that has been unsupported for over 10 years.

As the data in the application is critical to the organisation, Manager Alan Brown contracted Compsoft to provide an interim solution pending the implementation of the new system. Compsoft created a pervasive routine to export the valuable data from all of the fields present in all tables within the application. The files can be read in Microsoft Excel or other standard software packages and give access to all data within the application without the reliance on the Delta software.

"This work by Compsoft on our bespoke Delta system was vital. Without it, we did not have full business continuity in place in case of an accident or incident. We have now reduced our risk for the period until the single, new, University-wide system replaces all of our current ones."
